After news that Smallville star Tom Welling will be appearing as Superman in The CW’s Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event this fan of the long-running The WB show hoped news Michael Rosenbaum would return as Lex Luthor would follow quickly. Well news came, but Rosenbaum won’t be.

In a post on Twitter, Rosenbaum revealed that Warner Bros reached out to him, but offered little info on his involvement.

“Their offer: No script. No idea what I’m doing. No idea when I’m shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the ass: “We have to know right now.” My simple answer was: “Pass.”

Rosenbaum shares that he was visiting his grandfather in Florida at the time.

Welling’s return to the role of Clark Kent was reported by Deadline only a few days ago. In a statement Arrow co-creator/executive producer  Marc Guggenheim shared the importance of Smallville to Arrow’s success.

“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” he said. “So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
