No. 4: Nancy Drew, The CW
It’s never easy to adapt a beloved and iconic book series to TV or Film. For every successful Game of Thrones, The Expanse or The Magicians there’s a Deadly Class, The Perfectionists or The Shannara Chronicles. That’s why, when we heard The CW was adapting Nancy Drew, we weren’t sure what to expect. Would it be a hit like the network’s adaptation of the Archie comic into Riverdale? Or would it be a mess.
We are happy to report that Nancy Drew is one of our must-see new series of the 2019 Fall TV season. Kennedy McMann stars as the iconic sleuth Nancy Drew and she is supported by a stellar cast of Leah Lewis (George), Maddison Jaizani (Bess), Tunji Kasim (Nick) and Alex Saxon (Ace). The five actors gel perfectly and their characters have developed a strong chemistry. Unlike Riverdale, where it often feels like characters are partition off by themselves or with one other character, Nancy Drew builds on the cast’s chemistry with strong writing that weaves the five in and out of the mystery without islanding any one character.
Plus, it also doesn’t hurt to have Party of Five alum Scott Wolf portray Nancy’s father Carson Drew.
