BBC One and Netflix’s long simmering reinterpretation of Count Dracula by Sherlock creators (Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat) will arrive on Netflix, January 4, according to Deadline. Prior to streaming on Netflix, the show will air on BBC One starting New Year’s Day.
The three-part series stars Danish actor Claes Bang as Dracula. Bang may be familiar to fans of Showtime’s The Affair. He was also featured in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a follow-up to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Dracula’s cast should include other familiar faces: Dolly Wells (Starz’s Blunt Talk), Clive Russell (Brynden Tully on Game of Thrones), and Sacha Dhawan (Davos from Marvel’s Iron Fist).
Unlike Sherlock, Dracula appears to be set during the same time period as Bram Stoker’s novel. If the trailer is any indication, Gatiss and Moffat’s version of Dracula will contain the same charm and whit that appealed to Sherlock watchers. With all the bloodletting and creepy crawlers appearing in the trailer, fans of horror shows like Penny Dreadful will definitely want to take a bite out of Dracula.
