The Force was strong with the box office this weekend. Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker raked in 175.5M domestically, and 373.5M worldwide, per The Hollywood Reporter! The movie cost nearly $300 million to make!

The film’s opening weekend haul comes in last behind previous Star Wars sequels The Force Awakens 248 million, and The Last Jedi’s 220 million. Industry critics believe Skywalker’s premiere date being so close to Christmas contributed to it’s lower profit. The first two movies premiered earlier in December. There is also it’s disappointing performance in China.

Nevertheless, the film was number 1 is almost every country. It easily beat out the abysmal Cats, and Sony’s Jumanji: The Next Level.

While the after Christmas numbers will really show if Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker can go the distance, it’s off to a good start.
