The Anti-Monitor may be laying waste to worlds in Crisis on Infinite Earths, but the CW used the opportunity to release a trailer for the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) streaming service series Stargirl. The trailer introduces series lead Courtney Whitemore (Brec Bassinger) along with her predecessor – Starman a.k.a. Sylvester Pemberton (Joel McHale). Luke Wilson will portray Courtney’s stepfather/mentor Pat Dugan, who was also Starman’s former partner.
Fans will have multiple options for viewing the show. According to Deadline, when Stargirl debuts Spring 2020 it will not be exclusive to DCU. The CW has landed the show’s linear and non-linear rights. Episodes can air on the CW network or online platforms one day after they are released on DCU. Like most DCU shows episodes are expected to drop weekly. Looks like CW superhero fans won’t have to worry about a lack of original programming next spring. This is comforting knowing that Arrow’s final episode is scheduled to air on January 28, 2020, and some series (Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow) tend to have shortened seasons.
Arrowverse viewers may recall a version of Stargirl played by Sarah Grey appearing during Legends of Tomorrow’s second season. Fans will undoubtedly make comparisons especially since Stargirl is expected to include Justice Society of America characters. The series’ showrunner is Stargirl co-creator Geoff Johns. Not only did Johns write a Stargirl comic (Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E.) in the late 1990s, but also her adventures in the pages of various Justice Society of America titles.
