The CW wasted little time in ordering new shows for the 2020-2021 season after renewing 13 series.
According to Variety, the netlet has picked up Superman and Lois and a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger.
Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will star on Superman and Lois. The pair first assumed their roles during Supergirl Seasons 2 and 4 respectively. Hopefully Jon Cryer’s version of Lex Luthor migrates over to Superman and Lois. Cryer has been devouring scenes (in a good way) since Lex debuted onscreen in Supergirl Season 4. Superman and Lois is the third Kryptonian-related show the network has carried since its inception. Smallville was the first ‘Superman’ show on the CW and was a holdover from the WB. After initially airing on CBS, Supergirl used one of Vibe’s interdimensional extrapolators and jumped to the CW. Todd Helbing who previously worked on The Flash will serve as the showrunner.
The pickup of Walker, Texas Ranger enables Jared Padalecki to join an elite class of television actors and actresses who immediately transition to another series after their current long-running show ends. Padalecki’s CW thriller Supernatural will end in May 2020 after 15 Seasons. The CW’s version of Walker, Texas Ranger reboots the Chuck Norris action/adventure drama that aired on CBS for 8 Seasons.
Padalecki will portray series lead Cordell Walker. No additional casting details were included with the announcement, but it would not be Walker, Texas Ranger without Cordell’s two ride or dies: James Trivette and Alexandra Cahill.
Anna Fricke will executive produce and write for the show; Fricke’s previous producing credits include SyFy’s Being Human and the CW’s Valor.
