Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series is getting a new lead.
Game of Thrones star Robert Aramayo has signed on as the lead in the TV series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved books, according to Deadline. In addition to portraying a young Ned Stark on Game of Thrones, Aramayo is set to appear in The Empty Man.
Reportedly, the new series “will explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.”
Amazon’s LOTR series has already been renewed for a second season and signed actors Ema Horvath, Joseph Mawle, Markella Kavenagh, and Morfydd Clark.
The battle for premium fantasy series is heating up with HBO having released His Dark Materials, Netffix’s The Witcher becoming a social media juggernaut and Amazon’s LOTR yet to air. Whether-or-not any of them can achieve Game of Thrones’ pop culture significance has yet to be seen.
