Bob Iger Steps Down as Disney CEO

In news that has the entertainment world shaking, Bob Iger is leaving his position as Disney CEO! Disney announced the change via press release.

Iger will now be Disney’s Executive Chairman until December 31, 2021, but his reign as CEO is over. He will be the driving force behind Disney’s creative endeavors. Bob Chapek, who was the head of Disney Parks, Experiences and Resorts, will become the new CEO of Disney effective immediately. Chapek’s contract runs through February 28, 2023. Chapek has been with Disney since 1993.

In Iger’s 15 years as Disney CEO, he was responsible for acquiring Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel and 20th Century Fox, the Sony deal with Spider-Man, Shanghai Disneyland, and Disney Plus. He brought unprecedented success to the 97 year old studio.

Iger is very confident in Chapek stating, “Under Bob’s leadership as CEO, our portfolio of great businesses and our amazing and talented people will continue to serve the company and it’s shareholders for years to come”.
