The live action remake of Disney’s Mulan is already making firsts! The Motion Picture Association of America handed the film a PG-13 rating, a first for the 90’s film remakes per The Hollywood Reporter!
The rating was due to “sequences of violence”. This is a bit of a departure for the normally family friendly studio. The last live action Disney film to receive a PG-13 rating was 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The live action Mulan will follow a similar story to it’s animated counterpart, but without the singing. It looks like the songs have been replaced with war battles instead. The rating definitely speaks to this version of Mulan being a bit more on the adult side.
Mulan is set to hit theaters March 27, 2020!
