There’s been a major shake up behind the scenes of Indiana Jones 5! Steven Spielberg will not be directing the next installment of the Indy’s adventure per Variety!

Originally, it was reported Spielberg would pick up where Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull left off, but clearly something has changed. It’s very likely Spielberg will remain on the project as a very experienced producer. He has been with the franchise since the beginning with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.

James Mangold is possibly next in line for the directors chair. Nothing is official as of yet, but he is being courted for the job. Mangold has previously directed The Wolverine, Logan and the Oscar nominated Ford V. Ferrari.

The news comes hot off the heels of Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford confirming the movie is set to begin production as early as April! This makes the deadline to find a director very tight.

Currently, Indiana Jones 5 is eyeing an 2021 theatrical debut!
