A new generation will get to experience one of the OG vampires. Universal Pictures is making a brand new Dracula film per The Hollywood Reporter.

Blumhouse, the horror studio, will produce the project with Universal. Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay will pen the script and Karyn Kusama will occupy the director’s chair.

Back in 2017, Universal was really pushing to begin a Monsterverse of movies. Updated films for all the classic movie monsters. However, after the 2017 remake of the The Mummy crashed and burned, the Monsterverse was put on hold.

It seems Universal is trying to revive the monsters, but with a bit of a different approach. The films will be stand alone features instead of a monster universe.

Dracula has also returned to TV with a BBC/Netflix limited series and ABC’s decision to go forward with a Dracula-centric pilot The Brides. Former Timeless star Goran Visnjic¬†was cast as Dracula for that show.

Do you want to see a Dracula movie? Are you ready for monster movie mania from Universal? Or would you prefer to watch a Dracula TV show?
