Gina Torres to Top-Line ABC Vampire Drama

Greg Berlanti is bringing some major girl power to ABC. Gina Torres has signed on to star in the female-driven vampire drama, The Brides, per Variety.

Rivderdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is the scribe behind the new bloodsuckers on the block. The series will be a new take on Dracula, but with three strong women who have formed their own family at the forefront. Furthermore, there will be a focus on the supernatural and horror.

Torres will portray Cleo Phillips. She is the leader and queen of the three Brides of Dracula. It turns out, she was actually a queen in her past life who was turned into a vampire by Dracula himself after her husbands death. Cleo is now a successful New York City real estate agent, who gets some stiff competition from a mysterious newcomer. This new presence will cause major drama between the three Brides.

Torres is no stranger to the genre having previously portrayed roles on Angel and Firefly. The Brides is currently in pre-production with a pilot order from ABC.
