With so much going on the world you’d be forgiven if you overlooked the upcoming premiere of Syfy’s new space romp Vagrant Queen.
Vagrant Queen stars Adriyan Rae as Elida, Alex McGregor as Amae, Colin Moss as Hath and Paul du Toit as Lazaro. It is based on the Vault comic book series by Magdalene Visaggio and illustrated by Jason Smith.
Vagrant Queen follows Elida from child queen to orphaned outcast, as she scavenges the treacherous corners of the galaxy, always one step ahead of the republic government out to extinguish her bloodline. When her old friend Isaac shows up claiming her mother Xevelyn is still alive, they head off with their new ally Amae to stage a rescue that will take her back into the perilous heart of her former kingdom and up against a deadly foe from her childhood, Commander Lazaro.
Vagrant Queen is the latest in a string of book and comic book adaptations–some more successful than others–by the sci-fi centric channel. The network found long-running success with The Magicians and Wynonna Earp, but cancelled The Expanse after three seasons. It was picked up by Amazon.
More recently, its adaptations of Deadly Class and Nightflyers were cancelled after single seasons.
Vagrant Queen isn’t Syfy’s only new upcoming adaptation. Resident Alien, starring Alan Tudyk and Elizabeth Bowen, is based on a Dark Horse comic. Its premiere date has not been announced.
Vagrant Queen premieres on March 27 on Syfy.
