The next big video game adaptation is coming to HBO. The pay cable network is set to turn 2013 Playstation game The Last of Us into a series per The Hollywood Reporter!

Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin will head up the new series. Game creator and writer Neil Druckmann will team up with Mazin to write and produce the show. It’s very rare to have the actual game creator work on the TV adaptation. Sony Pictures and Playstation Productions will co-produce the series.

The Last of Us is set in a post-apocalyptic world after an outbreak of a mysterious fungus that turns the majority of the population into cannibals. Joel, the main character, has to fight and shoot to get young Ellie across the United States. The game is a third-person action-adventure survival horror.

The original video game also has a sequel, The Last of Us II, set to debut on May 29, 2020. No word on when the series will make it to air, but the foundation is strong.
