First Flash Gordon Comic Strip Sells For Big Bucks

Who ever thought a comic strip would be worth half a million dollars? The first ever Flash Gordon comic strip recently sold for $480,000 per The Hollywood Reporter.

Flash Gordon first appeared in the Sunday paper comics on January 7, 1934. Creator Alex Raymond drew the strip by hand. The Flash Gordon comic strip was the competition for Buck Rogers.

Flash Gordon is the hero of a sci-fi adventure story about saving the Earth from the clutches of evil in space. George Lucas has stated the comic was a big inspiration for Star Wars.

The half a million dollar price tag set a record for a comic strip sale at auction.
