A 90’s disaster film may be getting an update! Universal Pictures is in negotiations to reboot 1996’s Twister, and Joseph Kosinski is the first choice for the director, per Variety.
Kosinski’s most recent director credit includes the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. He also sat in the director’s chair for 2010’s Tron: Legacy. He is no stranger to special effects or a big budget.
Universal is currently being hush on plot details, but the film will have big shoes to fill. 1996’s Twister features Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as a separated couple chasing incredible tornadoes in Oklahoma. With their team, they attempt to launch an advanced weather system to lengthen the warning time for tornadoes. The film pulled in $494 million worldwide! The popular film even became a ride at the Universal Studios theme park!
The studio is currently searching for writers for the script. Frank Marshall will produce the film.
