The band is coming back together one by one for a classic horror franchise. Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers for Scream 5, according to Deadline.
Cox previously starred all in 4 previous sequels as investigative news reporter Gale Weathers. She joins her ex-husband David Arquette as a member of the cast. The ultimate final girl Neve Campbell also confirmed she was in negotiations for the project.
Scream 5 is the follow up to 2011’s Scream 4. This will be the first film in the series without the late director and creator Wes Craven. Filling his shoes are directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will pen the screenplay.
Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream, will return to the film under the Radio Silence banner. The Radio Silence team expresses their excitement about Cox’s addition to the cast. “We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!”
Scream 5 will begin shooting as soon as safely possible in Wilmington, North Carolina.
