An animated Star Trek comedy series is getting a fresh face! Paul Scheer joins CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Lower Decks as a recurring guest star, according to Deadline.
This is the first comedy series in Star Trek’s long history. Scheer will voice Lt. Commander Andy Billups, the chief engineer on the USS Cerritos. He is the boss of Ensign Rutherford (Eugene Cordero). The character will appear sporadically throughout the 10-episode first season. Mike McMahan serves as showrunner.
The series will also feature characters Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawney Newsome), Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), and Ensign Tendi (Noël Wells), Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis), Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell), Lieutenant Shaxs (Fred Tatasciore), and Doctor T’Ana (Gillian Vigman). They make up the support crew on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos. The team must keep up with their duties, while the sci-fi magic of Star Trek occurs around them.
Star Trek: Lower Decks is the third series to become part of the Trekverse headed by Secret Hideout’s Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin. Moreover, Kurtzman and Kadin are co-executive producers for the project. The series will hit the streamer on August 6th!
