Get ready for more from the fantasy world of The Witcher. A new prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origins, is in development at Netflix, according to TVLine.

The series will take place 1200 years before the beginning of the original series. The new show will focus on the story of the first Witcher, and how all monsters, men and elves came to co-exist in one place.

Declan de Barra will move from current The Witcher writer/supervising producer to showrunner for the new prequel series. He gives a few words on the new project. He states, “As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell the story The Witcher: Blood Origin,” de Barra said in a statement. “A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books: What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher.”

Filming will predominantly be in the U.K. In the meantime, The Witcher proper will return for a second 8 episode season in 2021! No word on when the new series will premiere, but the ball is rolling!
