You may have been wondering how The Flash was going to write out Elongated Man after the character’s portrayer, Hartley Sawyer, was fired for racist and misogynistic tweets.  Now we know.

EW.com caught up with The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace, who delved into the how the show has decided to deal with the character’s exit after Sawyer was fired. The details are especially important since Elongated man was smack-dab in the middle of The Flash’s Season 6 storylines, which were cut short by COVID.

“In order to wrap that up, which we’re going to do at the top of season 7, Ralph has to be part of that. Now thank goodness, Ralph is a guy who can change faces and his appearance in many ways. Without giving any spoilers away, there are a couple of ways that we can have Elongated Man still appear in at least one episode this season to wrap that storyline up, that gets us what we need and still allows fans to say goodbye to the character, at least for the indefinite future.”

Sawyer’s previous acting credits include, The Young and the Restless, Miss 2059, Caper and I Am Not Infected.

How will the exit of Elongated man impact Ralph’s love interest Sue (Natalie Dreyfuss)? Wallace reveals that, instead of the planned arc for Ralph and Sue, “now Sue’s possibilities are wide open.”

The Flash returns to The CW in 2021.
