Get ready for a modern version of sugar, spice and everything nice! A live action series featuring The Powerpuff Girls is currently in development at The CW, according to Deadline.

The Powerpuff Girls animated series originally premiered in 1998 on Cartoon Network and lasted until 2005! Craig McCracken created the series. The story of 3 “perfect” crime fighting little girls, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup took the word by storm. The adorable tikes could fight and had attitudes to match. In addition, a 2016 reboot recently aired the third season in 2019.

The live action series will take the original concept and spin it a bit. The girls will be scorned adults, who are upset their childhood was spent fighting crime. Naturally, the world soon finds itself in trouble and the girls are the solution. Will they be able to put their grievances aside to save everyone?

Oscar Winner Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier are the creators behind the live action project. The duo will also pen the script. Regnier will serve as executive producer along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. Warner Bros. TV in connection with Berlanti Productions is the engine behind the new series.
