Basil Eidenbenz Takes Over Eskel on The Witcher

Sometimes, the magic just isn’t enough. Netflix’s The Witcher recasts Thue Ersted Rasmussen, Eskel with newcomer Basil Eidenbenz, per Deadline!

Season 2 of The Witcher was in production when the pandemic stopped everything. Rasmussen filmed scenes for the new season. However, the ongoing threat of the virus led him to vacate the role.

In an Instagram post, Rasmussen gives his feelings on leaving The Witcher. “Sadly, due to the rescheduling of because of COVID-19, I will not be portraying Eskel in The Witcher. It’s heartbreaking, of course, but I feel mostly happy and grateful for the days I got to spend on set earlier this year.” He goes on to “wish everyone the best of luck for the rest of production.” He even admits to being a “fanboy” for the series.

Basil Eidenbenz is his replacement for Eskel. Eskel comes from the Witcher of the school of the Wolf and possess strong magic powers. The actor’s most recent credits include British series Victoria and The Athena. Season 3 of The Witcher is currently in production.
