Vanessa Kai Cast in The CW’s Kung Fu

The fight is on! Vanessa Kai is officially a series regular on The CW’s upcoming series Kung Fu, according to Deadline.

The new show is actually a reboot of the 1970’s David Carradine led series of the same name by Ed Spielman. Kai portrays Pei-Ling Zhang! She is a mentor to main character Nicky Shen (Olivia Liang), and a gifted fighter herself. By the way, her character is deceased. She lives as a vision in Nicky’s mind. While trying to find Pei-Lang’s killer, she discovers her hero had several skeletons in her closet. However, the past influences the present and future in this series.

Nicky soon realizes someone is also trying to kill her. She will have use her Kung-Fu skills and Shaolin values to protect herself and her hometown. Additionally, the series stars Olivia Liang, Tzi Ma, Kheng Hua Tan, Jon Prasida, Shannon Dang and Eddie Liu.

Christina M. Kim serves as head writer and executive producer. Sarah Schechter, Martin Gero, and Greg Berlanti will co-executive produce the series.

Kung Fu premieres in 2021
