Ben Wheatley to Direct The Meg 2

The sharks are back! The Hollywood Reporter scoops Ben Wheatley will direct The Meg 2!

The sequel to 2018’s The Meg is gearing up to battle more sharks. While the film is still in development, the main cast will likely return. The star, Jason Statham, will be much more involved creatively this time around.

Wheatly takes over the director’s chair for Jon Turteltaub. Jon and Erich Hoeber are penning the script for the new film as they did for the first.  Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery return as producers. Warner Bros. is the studio behind the project.

The Meg featured Statham’s character as a shark expert finds himself in a battle against a giant prehistoric shark called a megalodon. The film hauled in $530.3 million worldwide.
