There’s something strange in the neighborhood! Variety reports Ghostbusters: Afterlife will now debut in Summer 2021!

The official new release date is June 11, 2021. It just happens to be 37 years almost to the day of the premiere of the first Ghostbusters film in 1984. The film was originally supposed to come in July 2020, but the Coronavirus pandemic had other plans.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a direct sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II. Original film cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver are all back for more in 2021. Sadly, Harold Ramis passed away in 2014. New additions to the cast include Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd. Jason Reitman occupies the director’s chair. His father, Ivan Reitman, directed both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II.

The new film will follow a family who moves into their deceased grandfathers old home in a small town. They soon discover his Ghostbusters gear and shenanigans ensue from there.

Columbia Pictures via Sony Pictures Motion Group is still the studio behind the franchise!
