Pixar told theaters “Forget It” for their next film. Disney/Pixar’s Soul will now premiere exclusively on Disney Plus, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film was supposed to be released in theaters on November 20, but the studio has abandoned this idea all together. On Christmas Day, Soul will premiere on Disney Plus! Unlike Mulan (2020), the film will not require an additional payment with the standard subscription fee. It will be available at no extra charge.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek gives a few words on Soul moving to Disney Plus. “We are thrilled to share Pixar’s spectacular and moving Soul with audiences direct to Disney+ in December. A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion, and this truly heartwarming and humorous story about human connection and finding one’s place in the world will be a treat for families to enjoy together this holiday season.”

Pete Docter and Kemp Powers serve as co-directors and co-writers of the screenplay. Mike Jones also assisted the duo with writing the film. In the movie, middle school teacher Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx) dreams of being a professional jazz musician. On the day he receives an change to play at the Half-Note Club, he is in a terrible accident. His soul is separated from his body, and sent to the You Seminar. It’s a special place where souls are reformed to be more compassionate before being transferred into a newborn child. When Joe learns he isn’t actually dead, he asks soul 22 (Tina Fey) to assist him in getting his body back. She wants no part of it, but ends up falling from You Seminar to Earth with Joe. Foxx, Fey, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs, and Angela Bassett star in the film.
