Frak Yeah! Simon Kinberg is set to pen the new Battlestar Galactica film, according to Variety!
In addition to writing the film, Kinberg is producing as well. He joins Dylan Clark on the producer front. Clark has been handling a possible BSG film for quite a while for Universal. Meanwhile, Kinberg was responsible for overseeing the X-Men franchise for the last 10 years.
Kinberg expresses his optimism on joining the BSG family. “Battlestar Galactica’ is one of the holy grails in science fiction, and I couldn’t be more excited about bringing something new to the franchise, while honoring what’s made it so iconic and enduring. I’m so grateful that Dylan and my partners at Universal have trusted me with this incredible universe.”
It is important to note the film is not connected to the upcoming tv series on NBC’s streaming service Peacock. Battlestar Galactica began as a TV series in 1978. It was first viewed as a Star Wars rip-off, but soon developed its own identity. The extremely successful 2004 SyFy Channel reboot lasted 5 years and spawned a TV film.
