A 1988 fantasy cult classic is returning on a different platform. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Willow is set to become a tv series on Disney Plus.
Willow follows a farmer of the same name who plays a crucial role in protecting a baby from an evil queen! The queen’s main goal is to kill the child and take over the world. The original 1988 film was produced by Star Wars head honcho George Lucas, and directed by Ron Howard.
Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Willow in the series. Ron Howard, Kathleen Kennedy and Jon M. Chu will serve as executive producers. Additionally, Chu is set to direct the first episode. Pilot writer Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle are co-showrunners.
Davis speaks on Willow’s return to the small screen. “So many fans have asked me over the years if Willow will make a return, and now I’m thrilled to tell them that he will indeed. Many have told me they grew up with Willow and that the film has influenced how they view heroism in our own world. If Willow Ufgood can represent the heroic potential in all of us, then he is a character I am extremely honored to reprise.“
