This news is hot in more ways than one. Temperature riser Zac Efron is set to star in the Firestarter reboot, according to Collider.
Efron’s will portray main character Andy McGee. The story follows a young girl and her father on the run from the government. The child can start fires with her mind and see the future. The government wants to use her abilities for the wrong reasons. The original Firestarter novel by Stephen King debuted in 1980. The first film adaptation in 1982 features a very young Drew Barrymore and David Keith.
Keith Thomas will serve as director. Scott Teems will pen the script and executive produce. Jason Blum, Akiva Goldsman, and original film associate producer Martha De Laurentiis will co-executive produce the film. The search is currently on for a young lead actress. Blumhouse is the studio behind the project.
Efron’s recent credits include Scoob, The Beach Bum and The Greatest Showman.
