Welp, it’s official folks! Director Patty Jenkins drops the news on Twitter that Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on Christmas Day in theaters and HBO Max!
Last week, all major media markets were reporting Warner Bros. could possibly drop its highly anticipated Wonder Woman sequel on HBO Max. Today, the rumors became true. The film’s director, Patty Jenkins, took to Twitter to share the news.
Jenkins states “THE TIME HAS COME. At some point you have to choose to share any love and joy you have to give, over anything else. Watch it IN THEATERS, where it is made safe to do so (check out the great work theaters have done to make it so!) And available in the safety of your home on HBO Max where it is not. Happy Holidays to all of you.“

This is a huge decision from the studio. Warner Bros. was counting on Wonder Woman 1984 to rake in billions of dollars. However, with the pandemic leaving everything up in the air, this may be the best track to recoup the film’s $200 million budget. As of right now, there will be no additional fee to view the film on HBO Max!
