It’s finally time for Batwoman to return as a new character! Javicia Leslie recently sat down with Variety to speak on becoming the female caped crusader!

Leslie comes into the role of Batwoman after a tumultuous off season. Not only was there a pandemic, but the former lead actress Ruby Rose left the series. Instead of Kate Kane, the new vigilante of Gotham City will be Ryan Wilder.

In a new interview, the actress reveals Ryan’s reason for fighting crime comes from deep place. She states “She finds someone that wants to adopt her, but she still had a childhood with different foster homes and what that comes with — the abuse, the neglect, the feeling that someone was supposed to be there to protect you and they’re not. She became other people’s protectors because of that. So, when she puts on the suit, it does go naturally with who she is as a person.

Additionally, she expresses she did not feel any pressure be different than her predecessor. “The writing allowed this character to stand out on its own and, of course, we’re two different individuals so my natural energy coming into it is already going to be different. I think my only job is to show up and have fun, and play in the storyline that’s already been created.

Check out the full interview where Leslie also speaks on the stunt work for the show. Batwoman season 2 hits The CW on January 17, 2021!
