Bad phone calls happen to good people at Blumhouse! Ethan Hawke has joined The Black Phone, according to Variety.
Hawke will play an unknown character in the upcoming horror film. The project marks his big return to Blumhouse films. He previously starred in The Purge. He’s also good friends with the horror company’s head honcho, Jason Blum.
The Black Phone’s story details are being kept a secret. However, rumor has it the film will follow a kidnapped child who begins to receive phone calls from the dead. The phone is disconnected, and he’s locked in a soundproof basement. The film takes its source material from a short story by Joe Hill.
Ex-Marvel director Scott Derrickson is taking the reigns for the movie. He and Robert Cargill wrote the adaptation. Derrickson, Cargill and Blum will all produce, while Hill is an executive producer. Production begins in February in North Carolina.
