A popular video game character speeds his way into a tv show! Deadline reports a new animated series, Sonic Prime, is currently in the works on Netflix.

It’s been 30 years since Sonic the Hedgehog launched on Sega Genesis, and the rest is history. The new series is set for 24 episodes. The target audience is 6 to 11 year olds. Sonic will be on an high-speed adventure through the multiverse to save the world. Additionally, it will be a coming of age story for the blue hedgehog.

Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer at SEGA, speaks on Sonic’s new journey to Netflix. “Sonic the Hedgehog is a global entertainment icon that has captivated audiences since its video game debut in 1991. With over 1.14 billion game units sold and downloaded to date, an exciting feature film, a robust licensing program and more, SEGA’s iconic hedgehog continues to surprise and delight audiences worldwide. We’re thrilled to partner with WildBrain, Man of Action Entertainment and Netflix to speed into this new, animated chapter in the Sonic franchise.”

Sonic Prime will hit Netflix in 2022!
