Shazam: Fury of The Gods Casts Helen Mirren in Villain Role

The sequel to Shazam! finds its baddie! According to Deadline, veteran actress Helen Mirren will portray the villain in Shazam: Fury of The Gods!

Mirren takes over the character of Hespera, a daughter of Atlas. Atlas is the God who holds the heavens on his back. Hespera is not in the comics, so not much else is known about her. Zachary Levi and Rachel Zelger currently round out the cast. Rumor has it Zelger and Mirren’s characters will be sisters.

David F. Sandberg returns to the director’s chair. Henry Gayden will pen the screenplay as he did for the first film. Peter Safran is set to produce. New Line is the engine behind the project.

Story details for the Shazam sequel are sparse, but look for Shazam to return with all the powers of the six gods. However, he’s still teenager Billy at heart trying to make it through this thing called life. He will undoubtedly have his hands full in the next film.
