Is Winter coming to Broadway? The Hollywood Reporter scoops a Game of Thrones stage play is in development!
HBO’s Game of Thrones took over the world from 2011 through 2019. The happenings of Westeros have intrigued audiences so much, there are several spin-offs already in the works. Now, it’s time for the Starks, Targaryens, Lannisters and more to hit a whole new medium.
Novel creator George R.R. Martin is now in the process of formulating a live stage spectacular for Broadway, West End and Australia! The plan is to resurrect fan-favorites like Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister for a poignant moment in Game of Thrones history. The plot will focus on The Great Tourney at Harrenhal. It’s a 10 day contest that is set 16 years before the happenings of the 2011 series.
Simon Painter and Tim Lawson are set to produce. Additionally, playwright Duncan MacMillan and director Dominic Cooke are attached to the project. New York City has been chosen as the play’s debut city. The first show is eyeing a 2023 premiere.
